“It was important for us that everything from the building form through to its materiality and interiors encompassed the lively, green park-like surroundings — you truly feel at home in the city here.”
John Hardwick-Smith, Athfield Architects
Architectural cues have been taken from the surrounding heritage buildings and park setting. You’ll see the brick façade of the Pukeahu Street Terraces relates in scale and materiality to the adjacent historic My Cook Police Station. The public realm landscaping, internal resident courtyard and retention of the established pohutukawa trees also extend the green park-like setting through the site.
How base isolation improves seismic resilience
Conventional Structure
Conventionally designed buildings typically follow the movement of the ground in an earthquake resulting in the early onset of superficial and structural damage
Base-Isolated Structure
By comparison, the ground can move beneath a base-isolated building without transferring all the forces and accelerations into the superstructure.
